11 And he said to him: And who hath told thee that thou wast naked, but that thou hast eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat?
12 And Adam said: The woman, whom thou gavest me to be my companion, gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the Lord God said to the woman: Why hast thou done this? And she answered: The serpent deceived me, and I did eat.
14 And the Lord God said to the serpent: Because thou hast done this thing, thou art cursed among all cattle, and beasts of the earth: upon thy breast shalt thou go, and earth shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
15 I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.
20 And Adam called the name of his wife Eve: because she was the mother of all the living.
Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be
thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,

Ephesians 1:1-14
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

Scripture
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Thessalonians 3:6-13(NKJV)
But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also [to see] you —
therefore, brethren, in all our affliction and distress we were comforted concerning you by your faith.
For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God,
night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?
Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.
And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we [do] to you,
so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

Psalm 11
In the Lord have I taken refuge;
how then can you say to me,
‘Flee like a bird to the hills,
‘For see how the wicked bend the bow
and fit their arrows to the string,
to shoot from the shadows at the true of heart.
‘When the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?’
The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes behold,
his eyelids try every mortal being.
The Lord tries the righteous as well as the wicked,
but those who delight in violence his soul abhors.
Upon the wicked he shall rain coals of fire
and burning sulphur;
scorching wind shall be their portion to drink.
For the Lord is righteous;

Scripture
Luke 18:35–43
As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

Psalm 42.1-7
As the deer longs for the water brooks, ♦

My soul is athirst for God, even for the living God; ♦
when shall I come before the presence of God?
My tears have been my bread day and night, ♦
while all day long they say to me, ‘Where is now your God?’
Now when I think on these things, I pour out my soul: ♦
how I went with the multitude
and led the procession to the house of God,
With the voice of praise and thanksgiving, ♦
among those who kept holy day.
Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul, ♦
and why are you so disquieted within me?
O put your trust in God; ♦
for I will yet give him thanks,
who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

Who will take my part against the evildoers?
If the Lord had not helped me,

3Weigh my heart, examine me by night, ♦

9From the wicked who assault me, ♦

23Who remembered us when we were in trouble, ♦

24And delivered us from our enemies, ♦

Scripture
Romans 2: 1-11
1 Wherefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest. For wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself. For thou dost the same things which thou judgest.
2 For we know that the judgment of God is, according to truth, against them that do such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them who do such things, and dost the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and patience, and longsuffering? Knowest thou not, that the benignity of God leadeth thee to penance?
5 But according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, thou treasurest up to thyself wrath, against the day of wrath, and revelation of the just judgment of God.
6 Who will render to every man according to his works.
7 To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life:
8 But to them that are contentious, and who obey not the truth, but give credit to iniquity, wrath and indignation.
9 Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek.
10 But glory, and honour, and peace to every one that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Scripture and Prayer
Romans 1:1-7.
1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, and set apart for the gospel of God— 2the gospel He promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3regarding His Son, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh, 4and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
5Through Him and on behalf of His name, we received grace and apostleship to call all those among the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. 6And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Prayer
I take some strange comfort in when I hear Jesus describe his contemporaries as a ‘wicked generation’. It’s so easy to idealise the past, to think that godlessness is somehow new, that we are the only generation to have lost our way. The present is a dangerous, war-torn country. It isn’t safe to walk the streets. It isn’t safe to turn on the radio. The past is a magical place, all wholesome and sepia-tinted.

Scripture and Prayer
Psalm 116
I love the Lord,
for he has heard the voice of my supplication; ♦
because he inclined his ear to me
on the day I called to him.
2 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pains of hell took hold of me; ♦
by grief and sorrow was I held.
3 Then I called upon the name of the Lord: ♦
‘O Lord, I beg you, deliver my soul.’
4 Gracious is the Lord and righteous; ♦
our God is full of compassion.
5 The Lord watches over the simple; ♦
I was brought very low and he saved me.
6 Turn again to your rest, O my soul, ♦
for the Lord has been gracious to you.
7 For you have delivered my soul from death, ♦
my eyes from tears and my feet from falling.
8 I will walk before the Lord ♦
in the land of the living.
9 I believed that I should perish
for I was sorely troubled; ♦
and I said in my alarm,
‘Everyone is a liar.’
10 How shall I repay the Lord ♦
for all the benefits he has given to me?
11 I will lift up the cup of salvation ♦
and call upon the name of the Lord.
12 I will fulfil my vows to the Lord ♦
in the presence of all his people.
13 Precious in the sight of the Lord ♦
is the death of his faithful servants.
14 O Lord, I am your servant, ♦
your servant, the child of your handmaid;
you have freed me from my bonds.
15 I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving ♦
and call upon the name of the Lord.
16 I will fulfil my vows to the Lord ♦
in the presence of all his people,
17 In the courts of the house of the Lord, ♦
in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Alleluia.

Scripture and Prayer
1 Why do the nations conspire a
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3“ Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”
4The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron b ;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 herefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him

Scripture
Psalm 1
Blessed are they who have not walked
in the counsel of the wicked,
nor lingered in the way of sinners,
nor sat in the assembly of the scornful.
Their delight is in the law of the Lord
and they meditate on his law day and night.
Like a tree planted by streams of water
bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither,
whatever they do, it shall prosper.
As for the wicked, it is not so with them;
they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked shall not be able to stand in the judgement,
nor the sinner in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked shall perish.

Scripture
Psalm 86.1-9
Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and in misery.
Preserve my soul, for I am faithful;
save your servant, for I put my trust in you.
Be merciful to me, O Lord, for you are my God;
I call upon you all the day long.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
For you, Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer
and listen to the voice of my supplication.
In the day of my distress I will call upon you,
for you will answer me.
Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord,
nor any works like yours.
All nations you have made shall come and worship you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
Prayer
Come in blessing to us, to our families, friends and neighbours, and give us what we need day by day. Give grace to all in our community, to share generously the good things we are given with those who have little.
Pardon and heal all who are caught in bitterness and resentment about wrongs that they cannot forgive. Deliver from evil those who are sorely tried as they make decisions for their lives.

Psalm 87
Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.
He has founded his city on the holy mountain.
The Lord loves the gates of Zion
more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.
Glorious things are said of you,
city of God: a
“I will record Rahab b and Babylon
among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush c —
and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’ ” d
5Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
“This one and that one were born in her,
and the Most High himself will establish her.”
The Lord will write in the register of the peoples:
“This one was born in Zion.”
As they make music they will sing,
“All my fountains are in you.”

so great is his mercy upon those who fear him.

Scripture
2 Corinthians 5:18–19, NIV

Prayer
Lord our God, our Father in heaven, we come to you as your children. Bless us, we pray. Bless us especially in days when fear tries to take hold of us. Let your help come down to us as you have promised, the great help in Jesus Christ, who shall come to redeem the whole world. Bless us through your Word. Renew us again and again to stand firm and true to you, for you are our help for redemption and reconciliation through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Scripture and Prayer
Psalm 73
Refrain:In the Lord God have I made my refuge.
Truly, God is loving to Israel, ♦
to those who are pure in heart.
Nevertheless, my feet were almost gone; ♦
my steps had well-nigh slipped.
For I was envious of the proud; ♦
I saw the wicked in such prosperity;
For they suffer no pains ♦
and their bodies are sleek and sound;
They come to no misfortune like other folk; ♦
nor are they plagued as others are;
Therefore pride is their necklace ♦
and violence wraps them like a cloak.
Their iniquity comes from within; ♦
the conceits of their hearts overflow. R
They scoff, and speak only of evil; ♦
they talk of oppression from on high.
They set their mouth against the heavens, ♦
and their tongue ranges round the earth;
And so the people turn to them ♦
and find in them no fault.
They say, ‘How should God know? ♦
Is there knowledge in the Most High?’
Behold, these are the wicked; ♦
ever at ease, they increase their wealth.
Is it in vain that I cleansed my heart ♦
and washed my hands in innocence?
All day long have I been stricken ♦
and chastened every morning.
If I had said, ‘I will speak as they do,’ ♦
I should have betrayed the generation of your children. R
Then thought I to understand this, ♦
but it was too hard for me,
Until I entered the sanctuary of God ♦
and understood the end of the wicked:
How you set them in slippery places; ♦
you cast them down to destruction.
How suddenly do they come to destruction, ♦
perish and come to a fearful end!
As with a dream when one awakes, ♦
so, Lord, when you arise you will despise their image.
When my heart became embittered ♦
and I was pierced to the quick,
I was but foolish and ignorant; ♦
I was like a brute beast in your presence. R
Yet I am always with you; ♦
you hold me by my right hand.
You will guide me with your counsel ♦
and afterwards receive me with glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you? ♦
And there is nothing upon earth that I desire
in comparison with you.
Though my flesh and my heart fail me, ♦
God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.
Truly, those who forsake you will perish; ♦
you will put to silence the faithless who betray you.
But it is good for me to draw near to God; ♦
in the Lord God have I made my refuge,
that I may tell of all your works.

Deliverance (Pauline)
Scripture
With their patience worn out by the journey,
the people complained against God and Moses,
“Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert,
where there is no food or water?
We are disgusted with this wretched food!”
In punishment the LORD sent among the people saraph serpents,
which bit the people so that many of them died.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I love You, I praise You, and I worship You. I thank You for sending Your Son Jesus Who won victory over sin and death for my salvation. I thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit Who empowers me, guides me, and leads me into fullness of life.
By the power of Your Holy Spirit, reveal to me, Father, any people I need to forgive and any areas of unconfessed sin. Reveal aspects of my life that are not pleasing to You, Father, ways that have given or could give satan a foothold in my life. Father, I give to You any unforgiveness; I give to You my sins; and, I give to You all ways that satan has a hold of my life. Thank You, for Your forgiveness and Your love.

Scripture – Psalm 62.1-7
On God alone my soul in stillness waits;
from him comes my salvation.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold, so that I shall never be shaken.
How long will all of you assail me to destroy me,
as you would a tottering wall or a leaning fence?
They plot only to thrust me down from my place of honour;
lies are their chief delight;
they bless with their mouth, but in their heart they curse.
Wait on God alone in stillness, O my soul;
for in him is my hope.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold, so that I shall not be shaken.
In God is my strength and my glory;
God is my strong rock; in him is my refuge.
Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.
Prayer
Merciful God,
your Son came to save us
and bore our sins on the cross:
may we trust in your mercy
and know your love,
rejoicing in the righteousness
that is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Scripture
All these evils come from within, and these are what defile a man. Jesus left that place and went to the region of Tyre. Not wanting anyone to know He was there, He entered a house, but was unable to escape their notice. Instead, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit soon heard about Jesus, and she came and fell at His feet.…Now she was a Greek woman of Syrophoenician origin, and she kept asking Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.“First let the children have their fill,” He said. “For it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” Yes, Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs. hen Jesus told her, “Because of this answer, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.” And she went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon was gone. (Mark 7:23-30)

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34)
Prayer
We pray for all who are in need. Support and encourage those who are unemployed, underemployed, experiencing poverty, or who are employed in wrong callings not from You. Bring food, shelter, clothes, and stability for daily life. Lord, in your mercy,

Scripture
Psalm 119.17-40
17 O do good to your servant that I may live, ♦
and so shall I keep your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may see ♦
the wonders of your law.
19 I am a stranger upon earth; ♦
hide not your commandments from me.
20 My soul is consumed at all times ♦
with fervent longing for your judgements. R
21 You have rebuked the arrogant; ♦
cursed are those who stray from your commandments.
22 Turn from me shame and rebuke, ♦
for I have kept your testimonies.
23 Rulers also sit and speak against me, ♦
but your servant meditates on your statutes.
24 For your testimonies are my delight; ♦
they are my faithful counsellors. R
25 My soul cleaves to the dust; ♦
O give me life according to your word.
26 I have acknowledged my ways and you have answered me; ♦
O teach me your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of your commandments, ♦
and so shall I meditate on your wondrous works.
28 My soul melts away in tears of sorrow; ♦
raise me up according to your word. R
29 Take from me the way of falsehood; ♦
be gracious to me through your law.
30 I have chosen the way of truth ♦
and your judgements have I laid before me.
31 I hold fast to your testimonies; ♦
O Lord, let me not be put to shame.
32 I will run the way of your commandments, ♦
when you have set my heart at liberty.
33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes ♦
and I shall keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding and I shall keep your law; ♦
I shall keep it with my whole heart.
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments, ♦
for therein is my delight.
36 Incline my heart to your testimonies ♦
and not to unjust gain. R
37 Turn away my eyes lest they gaze on vanities; ♦
O give me life in your ways.
38 Confirm to your servant your promise, ♦
which stands for all who fear you.
39 Turn away the reproach which I dread, ♦
because your judgements are good.
40 Behold, I long for your commandments; ♦
in your righteousness give me life.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34)
Prayer
Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes.
Faithful God,
let your word be the treasure of our hearts,
that we may delight in your truth
and walk in the glorious liberty of your Son Jesus Christ.

Scripture
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34)
Prayer
The Kingdom of Heaven will not be not quite as expected
The beauty, and the frustration, of Jesus’ use of similes is that they are ambiguous. Sometimes they feel open, engaging, at other times they seem harsh and closed. When I read of the King taking the talent from the man who hid it in the ground, giving it to the man with the most, I feel compassion, and confusion. Yet this is how the Kingdom of Heaven is to be.
I know that the man has acted out of fear, that his actions might be illustrative of one who does not cultivate and use God’s gifts. But I’m still not sure what to make of the ‘good-for-nothing servant’ being thrown out ‘into the dark’. There’s a discomfort I can’t shake.
This discomfort might just be the point. The Kingdom of Heaven will not be quite as I expect or would have planned. In the face of this, I pray for humility.

Scripture Psalm 139
1O Lord, you have searched me out and known me; ♦
you know my sitting down and my rising up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
2You mark out my journeys and my resting place ♦
and are acquainted with all my ways.
3For there is not a word on my tongue, ♦
but you, O Lord, know it altogether.
4You encompass me behind and before ♦
and lay your hand upon me.
5Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, ♦
so high that I cannot attain it. R
6Where can I go then from your spirit? ♦
Or where can I flee from your presence?
7If I climb up to heaven, you are there; ♦
if I make the grave my bed, you are there also.
8If I take the wings of the morning ♦
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
9Even there your hand shall lead me, ♦
your right hand hold me fast.
10If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will cover me ♦
and the light around me turn to night,’
11Even darkness is no darkness with you;
the night is as clear as the day; ♦
darkness and light to you are both alike. R
12For you yourself created my inmost parts; ♦
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
13I thank you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; ♦
marvellous are your works, my soul knows well.
14My frame was not hidden from you, ♦
when I was made in secret
and woven in the depths of the earth.
15Your eyes beheld my form, as yet unfinished; ♦
already in your book were all my members written,
16As day by day they were fashioned ♦
when as yet there was none of them.
17How deep are your counsels to me, O God! ♦
How great is the sum of them!
18If I count them, they are more in number than the sand, ♦
and at the end, I am still in your presence. R
19O that you would slay the wicked, O God, ♦
that the bloodthirsty might depart from me!
20They speak against you with wicked intent; ♦
your enemies take up your name for evil.
21Do I not oppose those, O Lord, who oppose you? ♦
Do I not abhor those who rise up against you?
22I hate them with a perfect hatred; ♦
they have become my own enemies also.
23Search me out, O God, and know my heart; ♦
try me and examine my thoughts.
24See if there is any way of wickedness in me ♦
and lead me in the way everlasting.

you established the earth, and it abides.
2 By your decree these continue to this day,*

because by them you give me life.
4 I see that all things come to an end,*
but your commandment has no bounds.

Scripture
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)
Prayer
“Lord, I long for those moments early in my faith when I felt your closeness, your joy, your energy and zest for life. I confess that the daily grind has ground down my passion for you. I confess that I allow the cares of the world to choke out the joy of the gospel. Lord, turn my heart toward you again. Fix my eyes on you, fix my heart on you. Help me have a reset in my faith and in my life, starting today. Renew my heart, renew my life for you and your ways. Help me see the daily routines of life as moments to gracefully submit to your will. Thank you for being the Lord of my life everyday. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Scripture – Second Corinthians 9:6-10
Happy the merciful who give to those in need
But remember: anyone who sows sparsely will reap sparsely as well — and anyone who sows generously will reap generously as well.
Prayer
Allow Jesus to work freely in your heart, to uproot self-centeredness, burn out vices, mold you into his likeness. Let his image in you – the deepest and most personal truth about us all – be restored to its original beauty. May he lend you his own love so that you may love everyone, especially those entrusted to you, with his own love. Love with him the entire Church, along with all those who suffer in our world, especially those who suffer without faith and hope.

O God, you declare your almighty power
most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:
mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace,
that we, running the way of your commandments,

Scripture – Proverbs 29 (continued)
Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.
2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan.
3 A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
4 By justice a king gives a country stability,
but those who are greedy for[a] bribes tear it down.
5 Those who flatter their neighbors
are spreading nets for their feet.
6 Evildoers are snared by their own sin,
but the righteous shout for joy and are glad.
7 The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern.
8 Mockers stir up a city,
but the wise turn away anger.
9 If a wise person goes to court with a fool,
the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.
10 The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity
and seek to kill the upright.
11 Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end.
12 If a ruler listens to lies,
all his officials become wicked.
13 The poor and the oppressor have this in common:
The Lord gives sight to the eyes of both.
14 If a king judges the poor with fairness,
his throne will be established forever.
15 A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,
but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
16 When the wicked thrive, so does sin,
but the righteous will see their downfall.
17 Discipline your children, and they will give you peace;
they will bring you the delights you desire.
18 Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint;
but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.
19 Servants cannot be corrected by mere words;
though they understand, they will not respond.
20 Do you see someone who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for them.
21 A servant pampered from youth
will turn out to be insolent.
22 An angry person stirs up conflict,
and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.
23 Pride brings a person low,
but the lowly in spirit gain honor.
24 The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies;
they are put under oath and dare not testify.
25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.
26 Many seek an audience with a ruler,
but it is from the Lord that one gets justice.
27 The righteous detest the dishonest;
the wicked detest the upright.

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, ♦
slow to anger and of great kindness.
He will not always accuse us, ♦
neither will he keep his anger for ever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, ♦
nor rewarded us according to our wickedness.
For as the heavens are high above the earth, ♦
so great is his mercy upon those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west, ♦
so far has he set our sins from us.
As a father has compassion on his children, ♦
so is the Lord merciful towards those who fear him.
For he knows of what we are made; ♦
he remembers that we are but dust.
Our days are but as grass; ♦
we flourish as a flower of the field;
For as soon as the wind goes over it, it is gone, ♦
and its place shall know it no more.
But the merciful goodness of the Lord is from of old
and endures for ever on those who fear him, ♦
and his righteousness on children’s children;
On those who keep his covenant ♦
and remember his commandments to do them.

Scripture
LUKE 18:1-8
1. And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2. Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
4. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5. Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7, And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8. I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and he went in unto her, and Jehovah gave her conception, and she bare a son. 14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be Jehovah, who hath not left thee this day without a near kinsman; and let his name be famous in Israel. 15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of life, and a nourisher of thine old age, for thy daughter-in-law, who loveth thee, who is better to thee than seven sons, hath borne him. 16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. 17 And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of [a]Jesse, the father of David.
18 Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez begat Hezron, 19 and Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, 20 and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat [b]Salmon, 21 and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed, 22 and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David. RUTH 4:13–22

10 Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.”
Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. 11 Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”
13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
15 Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, “I did not laugh.”
But he said, “Yes, you did laugh.”

1 Samuel 17:(1a, 4-11, 19-23), 32-49
17:1a Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle; they were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
17:4 And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
17:5 He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.
17:6 He had greaves of bronze on his legs and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders.
17:7 The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and his shield-bearer went before him.
17:8 He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
17:9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.”
17:10 And the Philistine said, “Today I defy the ranks of Israel! Give me a man, that we may fight together.”
17:11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.
17:19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
17:20 David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, took the provisions, and went as Jesse had commanded him. He came to the encampment as the army was going forth to the battle line, shouting the war cry.
17:21 Israel and the Philistines drew up for battle, army against army.
17:22 David left the things in charge of the keeper of the baggage, ran to the ranks, and went and greeted his brothers.
17:23 As he talked with them, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke the same words as before. And David heard him.
17:32 David said to Saul, “Let no one’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
17:33 Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are just a boy, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”
17:34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father; and whenever a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb from the flock,
17:35 I went after it and struck it down, rescuing the lamb from its mouth; and if it turned against me, I would catch it by the jaw, strike it down, and kill it.
17:36 Your servant has killed both lions and bears; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”
17:37 David said, “The LORD, who saved me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will save me from the hand of this Philistine.” So Saul said to David, “Go, and may the LORD be with you!”
17:38 Saul clothed David with his armor; he put a bronze helmet on his head and clothed him with a coat of mail.
17:39 David strapped Saul’s sword over the armor, and he tried in vain to walk, for he was not used to them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these; for I am not used to them.” So David removed them.
17:40 Then he took his staff in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the wadi, and put them in his shepherd’s bag, in the pouch; his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine.
17:41 The Philistine came on and drew near to David, with his shield-bearer in front of him.
17:42 When the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was only a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance.
17:43 The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
17:44 The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the wild animals of the field.”
17:45 But David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
17:46 This very day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head; and I will give the dead bodies of the Philistine army this very day to the birds of the air and to the wild animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
17:47 and that all this assembly may know that the LORD does not save by sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and he will give you into our hand.”
17:48 When the Philistine drew nearer to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.
17:49 David put his hand in his bag, took out a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead; the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground.

A Psalm to Be Prayed
Psalm 20
Refrain: We will call on the name of the Lord our God.
1 May the Lord hear you in the day of trouble, ♦
the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
2 Send you help from his sanctuary ♦
and strengthen you out of Zion;
3 Remember all your offerings ♦
and accept your burnt sacrifice;
4 Grant you your heart’s desire ♦
and fulfil all your mind.
5 May we rejoice in your salvation
and triumph in the name of our God; ♦
may the Lord perform all your petitions. R
6 Now I know that the Lord will save his anointed; ♦
he will answer him from his holy heaven,
with the mighty strength of his right hand.

Compassionate and Great God of Hope, today I am thinking about many others who are desperately in need of your healing, guidance and hope. There are many hurting people in the world. Some are needing to put their lives back together after natural disasters. Some are struggling to make sense of tragic accidents. Others are grieving because they have lost loved ones; and those like the families grieving because of the tragic condo collapse are suffering because their loved ones have not been found yet. And still others are lost in the cloud of addictions and cannot find the strength to get out. Come, Loving God, to all of these and pour out your healing, comfort, encouragement and guidance. And today, when I think of someone else who needs your strength and healing, hear those thoughts as prayers for them, too. I ask for your help where I need healing in my life. Forgive me when I sin; and, help me to forgive myself, and thereby, allowing your healing and wholeness to reach my soul. These things I pray, in your Son’s holy name, Jesus, my Savior. Amen.

Nazaerene Prayer
Father in Heaven, I give glory, honor, and praise to Your holy name. I bless and worship You. You are the God of all creation; all power, wisdom, and knowledge are in You. You are the God of holiness, mercy, and love. Father, in the name of Jesus, who died and rose again, I stand in agreement with the believers who assemble at the Love and Unity Christian Fellowship. We are a blessed people; all of our needs are met, the way is made, and the door is open to us. We shall experience a great move of the Holy Ghost in this ministry. Many souls shall be saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. The fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit shall manifest in our lives. The sick shall be healed, and in the name of Jesus, we shall cast out devils. We will live holy and love each other. We are believing that all our family members will be saved and baptized with the Holy Ghost. We will be bold in preaching the gospel of Christ to the lost; we will compel them to come to the House of the Lord and we will make disciples of those who believe. Our marriages and families shall prosper and God will connect holy men and women in matrimony. Through paying tithes, giving liberally and being wise in how we spend money, we shall become a debt free people and we will help the poor. We are faithful and dedicated to prayer, fasting, reading and meditating in the Word of God. We praise and thank God for what He has done and we thank Him for what He shall do. We have the victory and we will always win in the name of Jesus. By faith, we shall live and die in the will of God and we shall have what we say. Amen.

Common Lectionary
2 Samuel 6:1-5, 12b-19
6:1 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
6:2 David and all the people with him set out and went from Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the LORD of hosts who is enthroned on the cherubim.
6:3 They carried the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart
6:4 with the ark of God; and Ahio went in front of the ark.
6:5 David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the LORD with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals.
6:12b So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing;
6:13 and when those who bore the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.
6:14 David danced before the LORD with all his might; David was girded with a linen ephod.
6:15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
6:16 As the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
6:17 They brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and offerings of well-being before the LORD.
6:18 When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the offerings of well-being, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts,
6:19 and distributed food among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, to each a cake of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people went back to their homes.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. Romans 8:14–15a, NIV
Dear Father in heaven, open our hearts to the wonder of being able to call you Father, the wonder of being united with you. You are the source of all life and strength. In you is redemption, and we need to be redeemed before we can live rightly. Take from us the pressures forced on us by the flood of events. Make us completely free as people led by your hand, people who may be joyful because everything will be overcome through the power you grant us in Jesus Christ. Protect us from fear and from all evil. Show more and more clearly your good and wonderful goal for all people on earth, so that in expectation they may find happiness even in all the stress of today. Amen.

Psalm 137
1 By the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept, *
when we remembered you, O Zion.
2 As for our harps, we hung them up *
on the trees in the midst of that land.
3 For those who led us away captive asked us for a song,
and our oppressors called for mirth: *
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”
4 How shall we sing the Lord’s song *
upon an alien soil?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, *
let my right hand forget its skill.
6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you, *
if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy.

Romans 2:28-3:18 (Epistle) 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. 1 What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? 2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God. 3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? 4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.” 5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.) 6 Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world? 7 For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? 8 And why not say, “Let us do evil that good may come”? – as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just. 9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.” 13 “Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have practiced deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips; 14 whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 destruction and misery are in their ways; 17 and the way of peace they have not known.” 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” — Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
